Grizzly Bearware
Ursus arctos spp
I collected my first grizzly bear track with my father on the banks of a salmon stream in Anan Bay, Tongass National Forest, Alaska, on 20 July 1988. We saw the grizzly leave the print, and hastily poured plaster in it. Two juvenile grizzlies followed us when we attempted to retrieve the cast later that day. We succeeded the next morning, after a sleepless night. Since then I've collected tracks in Yellowstone and along other Alaskan rivers.

We collected this adult grizzly front paw print at Oxbow Bend on the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park in October 2012, as snow started to fall.
